Whitley Bay station on the Tyne and Wear Metro,     Designed by William Bell in 1910 for the North Eastern Railway to cope with the heavy traffic of both commuters and holidaymakers, it is a riot of ornate ironwork and glass awnings and remains well cared for and busy.
